90% of the owners of 4 way horn speakers are way below the level of those chrome bumper audiophiles you refer to. I would not concern myself with the levels , classifications and a desire to belong to the elite club. I already imagine you chasing tho...

"Five Channels" in this case is still "normal" stereo, with a blended center channel and stereo subs; 5 channels. And each channel will have multiple large drivers. I actually know the original "Dr. Dynaco" guy; he bought my old Fulton speakers...

Hello Guy,Please excuse the rapid fire response, bit short of time today.1)Your comments about the Io cart are most interesting; clearly it ain't about saturation. Here's another idea: if the domains in the magnetic material limit resolution (leading...

[quote user="angeloitacare"] Of course, Avantgarde with their price tag never will be for mass consumption. I offered Holger then to see If I could commercialize his horns in japan, Do u know how much was the dealer price for a pair of trios at that ...

Sure the 5.1 is not by itself so great, but is it "better" to fight with that pre-existing HT-type system for opera? Maybe just relax and present the opera playback +/- the way the "engineers" had it in mind when they laid down the tracks. Anyway, ...

You need to find an individual who can design series crossovers. Both JBL and Altec used these, because they sounded best. You will need to look for an individual near where you live because they will have to test the drivers as the design progresses...

I have read some of his writings over the years, but I must have missed his transition to horns and commerce. I guess it's time he cashed in on his considerable time and effort of sharing his findings and building a following. I wish he would show t...

The thing I notice with live music is the way the sound at all audible frequencies has articulated drive like I never hear with "true HF tweeters", or at least not the "tweeters" that go way up there. I got some sense of this drive and nat...

Nice to see someone actually try it. I know that fast rates "work" from MF and up; but I have not tried it with compression drivers/high gain/LF.Thanks for sharing.Best regards,Paul S...

Gargoyle, YMMV, but I associate LF propagation/amplification with mass; there has to be some way to really "anchor" at least the LF driver. I was thinking MF for the felt and/or paper horns, although I guess you could begin with a chicken wire form ...

Scott, I'm guessing the installation shown in the photo makes lots of LF, but how does it provide balanced, "free air" loads on both sides of the drivers?Best regards,Paul S...

ML2 is also making me hear my modified AI M3A pre-amp, not to mention I guess I could now benefit from all shielded cables. All this stuff was fine with the Wright 2A3s. Speakers: I built a version of Dick Olsher's 3-way Diamond...

Many years back, when I first went to try using more than one set of speakers in the same room, I was told that the "idle" drivers would have a negative aural effect on the drivers being listened to. Naturally, I went ahead and did it anyway.&n...

The Morons™ at AA’s between selling to each other what they did not like and topping each other on their shoulders came up with a subject what horn installation would be if price would be no object. The question is semi-foolish as price is never ...

Hi Romy
a good sound in a room does not depend only on the speaker chain, but essencially also of the room acoustics. Probably many of the Trio systems didn’t sound right just because of that…. I was at Holgers Home in Lautersbach back in 94. He ha...

[quote user="rdrysdale"] I mean that with a horn loaded compression driver, a strong motor, and a very light diaphragm, the attack and transients are more life like. Because the diaphragm can more precisely follow the recorded signal, the reproductio...

I would like to pass some summarizing observations and some generalizations regarding the entire “Water Drop” project.
THE IDEA
The idea of trying to find a tweeter to compliment Macondo was a good idea. Many of you know that I was proudly declari...

Here is the list of the thing to do with Vitavox S2 in order to use it in 4-ways installations. The S2 must not be used in 2, 3 ways systems. It possible to do with S2 whatever you wish but pretty much any other way to utilize them produces some very...

First off, I forgot to mention an interesting observation: Before running the sweeps (previous post), since the drivers in the upper-bass horns are new, I decided to verify/optimize rear chamber volume (they are easily adjustable)... I wasn't expecti...

Romy I have not herd so much doulble talk in a long time. Some of the best sounding drivers on the market in the last 60 years, were for sound reinforcement. I do believe, in a 2 way speaker system crossed over at 800hz with a good wood horn i wil...

Hi Romy,Well, this is my (and my dad's) first horn system so we're learning/building one step at a time. Our motivation is simple, to use horns as low as possible. The very first DIY configuration was:TAD ET-703TAD 4002GOTO 505TTTAD 1603 Woo...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]I wonder: does it mean that you will take the rest 28 drivers? Hm, are you trying to research the subject of the drivers’ critical mass or become a speaker maker? Be careful with their claims that they will be “manufactured...

I was slowly looking for a compression driver that would go in my Fundamental Chanel down to 200Hz. The YL Acoustic 550N attracted my attention. Then I realized that it is the narrow throat type of the drivers, aka WE555, not exactly that I would...

Hello Romy,
My apologies for not getting back to you sooner… Moving to the new place has turned out to be a huge task, but worth it, as this new home actually has a place to work, not to mention a much better selection of recorded music at the local...

fair enough- you're absolutely right, i didn't!it's difficult to get that perspective on sonics without legitimate guideposts-- even with a lifetime of playing and recording music, it's difficult to know what the parameters of recorded sound ar...
